Okay so I have a theory here!
According to Tech Radar devs who are working on NX say it's a bit like the WiiU, having a home console and a portable, except this time you wont be tethered to the home console with the portable. The article also says the NX will feature "Industry Leading" chips to compete with the Xbox One & PS4.
Switching gears for a moment, if you follow Nvidia's Shield devices you'll know there was a new model that passed through the FCC back in October, but has since had little to no information released. What has been figured out is the screen will be 5.66 inches, and its likely to be operating on Nvidias Tegra X1.
My theory is that Nvidia's code name LOKI is part of the Nintendo NX. This render seems like a 5.66 screen could fit perfectly. Early reports said the NX would run android. This could have stemmed from those who knew Nvidia would develop a portion of NX. The X1 would be a perfect fit for a superior mobile console device, although Nintendo is known to dominate the mobile gaming market regardless of their hardware.
NX = Nintendo & Tegra X
2/25 UPDATE: Gamespot published an interview that seems to be giving devs really low involvement with the console, so much so they arent aware of the consoles specs? Seems a bit strange since Nintendo is usually on point with launch titles. This leads me to believe NVidia might be in charge of some of the launch titles, so that the hardware can be properly shown off at launch. This interview even says they want to sell it as early as 2016!
3/2 UPDATE: No gameplay footage of sun and moon! It would compromise the system!
3/23 UPDATE: Nikkei posted a news story saying WiiU is scheduled to cease production this year, and that the company that creates the components have already slowed production on specific parts. However it looks like Nintendo is denying these claims.
After NX release... Nvidia tech confirmed / Wiiu production confirmed. Sun and Moon native to 3ds - so that's busted.
